Veidec Festival
23 – 26 July Mantorp Park, Sweden
The festival spirit reigns as thousands of fans head for Sweden and the 36th annual edition of Europe’s longest-established major drag race. The continent’s best teams feature among more than 300 entries competing at the four day event. 2008’s race produced beautiful weather and famous British victories for Andy Carter in Top Fuel and Rob Turner in Top Methanol Dragster.
Also in 2008, the race organisers, mindful of Mantorp’s short shutdown area, adopted NHRA’s new practice of running the fuel cars to 1000 feet. So which of our Top Fuel stars will be first to clock a 3-second elapsed time on European soil? And will it happen in 2009? Join us at Mantorp to see if history will be made.

EUROPE – FIA European Drag Racing Championship NitrolympX
14 – 17 August Hockenheim, Germany
Well-known to our Formula One Grand Prix followers, Germany’s Hockenheimring also hosts one of the highlights of the FIA Drag Racing season, the NitrolympX. For three days in August fans pack the southern stadium section to witness a weekend of intense competition, along with the after-dark spectacle of Saturday’s Nightshow. Though only used once a year the track can certainly deliver performance: in 2008 British Top Fuel star Andy Carter hit a booming 314mph terminal speed and Sweden’s Mikael Lindahl obliterated Pro Modified’s 240mph barrier.
