DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 8, 2009) – Racers in several major European series have a unique opportunity to land a spot in a Daytona Prototype for the 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona, through a special season-long Driver Challenge program offered by Sunoco race fuels distributor Anglo American Oil Company.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco is a competition between racers in high-caliber Sunoco-fuelled race championships in Europe, such as the British GT Championship and the British F3 International. The highest point scorer wins a race seat in a Daytona Prototype at the 2010 Rolex 24 at Daytona race and in doing so be in a position to win the race. The point system will include 100 points for a victory, 80 points for second, 75 for third, down through 15th place. In addition, 25 points will be awarded to both the driver who wins the pole and the driver with the fastest race lap.

“We feel that the Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco will increase the awareness of the Rolex 24 At Daytona in Europe by offering one of the biggest and most unique prizes ever offered to European racers,” said Robin Braig, President of Daytona International Speedway. “The Rolex 24 At Daytona is one of the most prestigious sports car races in the world, and this new driver challenge will continue to grow its international prominence.”

At the end of the season, the driver who accumulates the most points will be awarded with a driving spot in a Daytona Prototype, along with flight and accommodations for the 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona. In addition, the winner of the challenge will participate in the January Test Days.  Sunoco will provide race fuel for the prize winner’s Daytona Prototype throughout the Rolex 24 weekend and test.  The 2010 Daytona Prototype team will be determined at a later date.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge Presented By Sunoco is sponsored by the International Speedway Corporation and Sunoco, the official fuel of Grand-Am, and Daytona International Speedway. The Anglo American Oil Company (AAOC), the distributor of Sunoco race fuels in Europe and the Middle East, will administer the program and award the winner.

Anders Hildebrand Managing Director of Anglo American Oil Company continues: “This is an amazing prize that every sports car racer in Europe will be keen to win. The Rolex 24 At Daytona is one of the iconic races for sports car racers and we are delighted to be involved in this program which will increase interest for the Rolex 24 At Daytona amongst European racers and fans. We expect our relationship with ISC and the Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco to increase the awareness of Sunoco race fuels in this market.”
