In 2007 the podium was never in doubt. Raikkonen led from the start backed up by teammate Massa and Alonso stayed ahead of Hamilton to complete the line up. Further back it was all happening. Fisichella retired after just one lap and it was a dismal day for the Toyota team. Webber had an excellent race for Red Bull finishing 7th and Sutil, in the Spyker, progressed magnificently from 19th on the grid, reaching 12th before a mistake at Les Combes put him back to an eventual 14th place.
Spa-Francorchamps made a welcome return to the calendar in 2007 with a revised start/finish line and a wider track at La Source hairpin. Happily the first bend still represents a leap of faith with a clean exit into the descent to Eau Rouge bringing a sigh of relief. Like Monaco, pole position here has added benefits. After the spine-tingling start the circuit rises and falls in spectacular fashion through the forests of the Ardennes, making it unique on the F1 calendar. Drivers love the challenge it represents and spectators love to watch from the legendary bends and vantage points amongst the trees.
