Montreal is a lively multi-cultural city, easy to get around, great for sightseeing on foot and with a well-earned reputation for the standard of its restaurants. It is no wonder that it’s one of the favourite race venues of teams and spectators alike.
Old Montreal and the port are perfect for daytime browsing and you can shop in the modern commercial centres or in the miles of underground shopping arcades which lie beneath the downtown area. In the evenings the French Quarter is packed with race fans enjoying the party atmosphere.
The circuit, on the Ile Notre Dame, is easily accessible by Metro from the city centre. The 2008 race was certainly one of the highlights of the year and very entertaining. All the championship contenders, save Massa who could only manage fifth, went out resulting in a most unusual top eight and a rare treat for the spectators. The BMW Sauber team had a splendid day with Kubica’s first race win followed by teammate Heidfeld. Coulthard for Red Bull came third and Vettel scored one point for eighth place in the Toro Rosso.
