The Mercure Hotel de France is one of the oldest in the city and occupies the premier position right next to "Les Halles" where the competitor's buffet is held. It also has the huge advantage of ample secure underground parking, especially useful during Les Remparts when parking spaces are at a premium. Although the building (Balzac's birthplace) is historic, the rooms have all been modernised and are fairly uniform and to the normal Mercure standard. There is a pleasant bar, a good restaurant and a large resident's breakfast room overlooking the attractive gardens. The Hotel de France is a natural rendezvous during the Circuit des Remparts owing to its perfect positioning.

The owners of this hotel are very friendly and look after their guests with great care and interest. It is very central and within a few minutes of the various activities in the centre and the circuit itself. The hotel has its own car park as well as a secure overflow for the hotel guests. There is a bar, lift and all rooms have a mini-bar, air-conditioning and cable television.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Angouleme just 10 minutes drive from the centre. There is safe secure off road parking and all rooms are on the ground floor and open onto an enclosed garden. The hotel has a a good restaurant next door that is independently run.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Cognac with good off road parking. There is a nice outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
