Circuit des Remparts

20 September 2009 - Angoulême

On the roadThis years event see's the 70th anniversary of the first ever Circuit des Remparts race taking place. To celebrate we have developed a fresh new driving tour designed for classic cars. An overnight stop in the chic town of La Baule situated on the Atlantic coast en route to Angouleme is included to make for a relaxed drive to the event. Our five night Circuit des Remparts tour includes entry to the touristic Rally through the prettiest parts of the Charente countyside, this element was refreshed in 2008 and was very well received with a new lunch stop, excellent routes and interesting checkpoints along the way.

Plans are afoot to recreate the grid the crowds witnessed at the first Ramparts race in Angouleme in 1939, with many of the classic cars being sourced from collections and museums. Expect also to see vintage cars working their way round the famous hairpins and Touring and GT cars power sliding round this tight Angouleme street circuit. Other highlights of the Circuit des Remparts weekend are the Concours d'Elegance and Concours d'Etat where some of the finest cars at the event are judged.

Our Circuit des Remparts tours offer central hotels in Angouleme with secure parking plus over 10 years experience of going to this classic car event.

Stop press!

Demand for tours to the Circuit des Remparts this year has been exceptionally high and we have sold out of accommodation in the centre of Angouleme. However, we are still receiving lots of requests and have secured alternative accommodation in a Kyriad Hotel on the outskirts of Angouleme and in a Mercure Hotel close to the town of Cognac. Both our five night classic tour and our simple three night arrangement are available with either hotel option and for both we are including a return coach transfer from the hotel into Angouleme on Saturday evening and again on Sunday for the racing. Our tours also include of course your race tickets giving you access to the paddock and the grandstands and accommodation is on bed and breakfast basis.

Our Hotel

Hotel Mercure * * *
The Mercure Hotel de France is one of the oldest in the city and occupies the premier position right next to “Les Halles” where the competitor’s buffet is held. It also has the huge advantage of ample secure underground parking, especially useful during Les Remparts when parking spaces are at a premium.  Although the building (Balzac’s birthplace) is historic, the rooms have all been modernised and are fairly uniform and to the normal Mercure standard. There is a pleasant bar, a good restaurant and a large resident’s breakfast room overlooking the attractive gardens. The Hotel de France is a natural rendezvous during the Circuit des Remparts owing to its perfect positioning.

If this tour itinerary doesn't meet your requirements, please call us to speak to one of our specialists. We will discuss your plans and we can design a tour to specifically suit your needs.
