Sao Paulo is a vast, sprawling city with entertainments to suit all, plenty of excellent restaurants and a passion for Formula One like nowhere else. The Interlagos circuit has stood the test of time and has been hosting races including F1 Grands Prix since 1940. It is in a natural amphitheatre, is run anticlockwise and is a fast, challenging track.

If you’ve more time then maybe consider our two-centre holiday - after the Grand Prix in Sao Paulo you will fly to Rio de Janeiro where you can relax on the beach for a few days and enjoy a full days included excursion by jeep taking in the sights of Sugar Loaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, Tijuca and the Botanical Gardens.

Wednesday 16 November
Full day shared jeep excursion to Sugar Loaf Mountain, Tijuca and the Botanical Gardens.

Depart from your hotel for an exhilarating guided drive by open-top jeep climbing a steep, winding road through the thick tropical vegetation (Tijuca Forest) which cloaks the slopes of Corcovado Mountain. En route, you will pause at spots which offer expansive views over the city below. There is also a short walk to a pretty waterfall with a cafe adjacent. When you arrive at the summit, at 710m above sea level, the Christ the Redeemer statue stands open-armed to greet you, along with the sales people at the many stalls selling souvenirs and drinks. From the top, on a clear day, there are panoramic views of the city, beaches and the instantly recognisable Sugar Loaf Mountain. The downward journey heads through the residential neighbourhood of Laranjeiras and on to Botofogo Bay.

Lunch is taken at a restaurant before you continue byjeep to Rio's other iconic vantage point, the Sugar Loaf Mountain, situated in the villagey bay-side quarter of Urca. Its twin peaks are reached following a soaring cable-car journey during which Copacabana beach and Guanabara Bay come into view. The vistas here from this lower viewpoint include the 13km Niteroi Bridge one of the longest in the world - and Botafogo Bay, with its yacht club, beyond which is the pointy peak of Corcovado which you have just descended.

Finally head to the recently restored Botanical Gardens, founded in 1809, with their avenues of imperial palms and a comprehensive display of tropical plants and trees, including giant Victoria Regina water lilies native to the Amazon. Return to your hotel. The trip lasts about eight hours with a maximum of 10 passengers per jeep.

Thursday 17 November
Most of the day is free. You will be taken to the airport in the early evening for the late evening flight to Lisbon at 2355h.

Friday 18 November
Arrival at Lisbon is 1150 and your onward flight departs at 1440h.  Arrival into Heathrow is scheduled for 1730h.

Airport transfers are included throughout.  All flights are subject to availability and should any supplements be applicable due to increased airfares at the time of booking you will be advised before your booking is confirmed.
