Grand Prix de Tours

& The Loire Valley

21 - 25 June 2007

GP de Tours

The Grand Prix de Tours was a road race, which dates back to 1923. Following the tradition of such revivals in France, the dynamic and experienced organisers of this new event have created a small demonstration circuit in the centre of this fine city, the capital of the enchanting Loire Valley. There is a series of events over the weekend for enthusiasts of lovely pre and post-war machinery, creating a vibrant atmosphere you have to experience to believe. We stay in a very central hotel and have access to all the competitors’ events. We have then planned a very special extended three day excursion in the Loire Valley for those who wish to continue their holiday.

ChateauOur tour offers a unique and atmospheric long weekend for those not wishing to drive very far into France.  Our itinerary includes sightseeing, wining and dining with good company, travelling to and built around the event itself. The price includes the crossing with Brittany Ferries, three nights in Tours on bed and breakfast basis, entry to the rally with lunch, the competitors gala dinner and passes for you and your car to the demonstration runs on Sunday. Cars taking part in the rally need to be pre-1970.

A fantastic cross-section of vintage and classic cars take part in the rally and you will see some of the more hidden Loire Chateaux in magnificent settings and pass some prestigious wineries along the peaceful banks of the Loire and Cher rivers. A lunch is included at a chateau and the day ends with a fine Gala dinner starting at 2030h.

Sunday 24 June

Today’s demonstrations and activities all take place in the city centre and close to our hotel. There are displays of cars, your own included, and a series of demonstrations around the short circuit in themed groups according to age and type of vehicle. If your vehicle is pre-1970 you can take part. It is not racing, but very enjoyable for all who enter. There is an autojumble and trade village and all the cafes and bars have a motoring theme. This evening we have organised a farewell dinner at restaurant in Tours.
