Estoril enjoys a superb location on the Atlantic Coast less than twenty miles north of Lisbon. Neighbouring Cascais, a fifteen minute stroll along the sea front promenade, huddles around a small bay filled with colourful fishing boats and the charming narrow alleyways and cobbled streets of the old town are full of shops and restaurants.
Estoril is a chic resort with a long sandy beach and the famous Casino, the largest in Europe, is in the centre of town. In Estoril and Cascais you will find excellent restaurants serving succulent seafood and authentic Portuguese cuisine.
The circuit is just fifteen minutes drive inland towards Sintra – an old Moorish city and Summer residence of the Kings of Portugal for over 600 years. It is a track of extremes. Elevation changes, a long start/finish straight and a contrast of high speed and slow second-gear corners bring the average lap speed right down.
An action packed race in 2007 saw Valentino Rossi win his first MotoGP race since June. Rossi started in fifth place on the grid but soon slotted into third behind championship leader Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa. An exciting battle between the three riders saw leader changes right up until the penultimate lap when Rossi took the lead from Pedrosa and held it together to the chequered flag.
