The genteel town of Spa, at the heart of the
Ardennes, was famous as far back as Roman times
for its mineral springs and healing waters and has
given its name to health resorts everywhere. In the
19th century the casino was built to entertain the
mainly British visitors and, in the centre of town,
is still in business.
The new, modern spa facilities remain one of the main attractions
together with motor sports at the nearby Francorchamps circuit.
Spa is an excellent base for a racing event. It is a small town with
plenty of specialty shops and many excellent restaurants. Menus
featuring seasonal and local produce are always available – wild boar
and venison with rich sauces are particularly good. Freshly caught fish
is in no short supply either if you have a lighter taste. You can always
walk it off in the Hautes Fagnes or at the circuit by making your way
up to Pouhon, Blanchimont or Les Combes.
The Spa Six Hours weekend is a festival of racing with a phenomenal
twenty race programme and plenty of action. The six hour endurance
race begins early Saturday evening and inside the paddock there is
plenty of food and drink and entertainment for all ages. The information
stand will keep you up to date with events and you are free to wander at
leisure and get close up to the fine tuning and race preparations. Your
included entrance ticket gives you full access to the paddock and for
Saturday evening we have included dinner in a restaurant at the circuit.
Our three night itinerary allows you the flexibility to come and go as you
please with a choice of nearby hotels. Racing does, however, begin on
Friday so if you would like to travel out to Belgium on Thursday and
spend an extra night, just let us know and we can arrange it for you.
