Targa Tasmania

28 April - 3 May 2009

Tasmania is Australia’s smallest state – about the size of the Republic of Ireland and with a population of approximately half a million. The island enjoys a mild climate with four distinct seasons and boasts the world’s cleanest air. The scenery is spectacular with mountains, forests, lakes, beaches and unique wildlife! On a tour around the island you will Tasmaniadiscover historic towns with craft shops and markets, restaurants offering fine food and excellent local wines, great bars, ancient ruins, vineyards, national parks and as much breathtakingly beautiful wilderness as you could hope for.

Each April Tasmania hosts an international classic rally on closed roads and based around the cities of Launceston and Hobart, the capital. Three hundred touring, sports and GT cars will compete over six days and 2000 kms on some of the most exciting and challenging tarmac roads in the world. In the true tradition of the ‘Targa’ there’s no prize money – only the thrill of competing and the chance to win a magnificient targa trophy.

Targa Tasmania

Spectators flock to the island in their thousands to watch the action in the towns and villages as the rally passes through, or from special spectator points around the course, recommended for the excellent views. At the end of each day’s competition the cars are on display and you can watch as crews prepare for the next leg of the rally.

Most visitors to Tasmania wish they had stayed longer – make sure you’re not amongst them!

Tasmanian DevilsHistoric Rally

This tour will guide you through some of Tasmania’s beautiful natural wonders and quaintest of towns via some of the event’s signature rally stages.  You will also stop along the way to enjoy the history and scenery of the island and the some of the best food and wine available.  It is an excellent mix of motorsport and leisure activities.  You will be guided throughout by a local historic car enthusiast and receive a Targa Event DVD and other memorabilia.

Post rally extensions are available on request or you can return to Melbourne and continue your holiday on the mainland.

To qualify, the car you bring on this historic tour must be manufactured in 1979 or earlier.  We can assist with, or arrange for you, the shipping of your car to Australia, flights and additional accommodation on mainland Australia or in Tasmania.
