Extremely successful trip to India

It was an extremely successful trip with everything going to plan.  There was someone to escort or meet us on each leg of the visit.  LPTI were very efficient in this respect.  For the Shimla leg our guide was Ravi Gupta who was with us for the three days.  Nothing was too much trouble for Ravi who was a mine of information but who was happy to tweak the itinerary for our benefit.  He also made some local enquiries in Shimla when we told him about places that Kathy’s dad had visited during leave in World War 2.  He was able to take us to those parts of the city.

Back in Delhi, the guide for the city tour was excellent (sorry, can’t remember his name) then for the Golden Triangle leg, Abhishek Mishra’s knowledge about all the places we visited and India’s history and culture was comprehensive.  He was always making sure we had as memorable a visit as possible. He even came down to reception in person on the last morning to ensure our transfer was on time.

Last but not least, I must mention Roy Scorgie.  From the personal note delivered under our hotel door once the rest of the tour group had arrived in Delhi to his checking on the last day in Agra that our transfer to the airport (earlier than the rest of the group) was confirmed, he was the ideal tour representative – efficient, methodical with attention paid to the little details that can easily be missed.  Roy and Abhi made an excellent double act to make sure the whole group had a great time.  Again, they were not afraid to tweak the itinerary to make our trip more enjoyable.

As far as the accommodation is concerned, the Clarks Amer in Jaipur and the Uppai in Delhi were good, the Jaypee Palace and Suryaa in Delhi were excellent but the best by a long way was the Oberoi Cecil in Shimla.  This is not just because we were given an upgrade to a suite (all five rooms of it!); it was a fantastic hotel, one of the best we have stayed in.

Finally, thanks to everyone at grandstand who helped put the trip together.  It was a wonderful experience.

PS  The GP tickets were in a great position, right opposite the podium and in full view of Vettel’s donut!
