Spotlight on Mugello for the Italian MotoGP

Grandstand team member, James Harrold, experienced his first ever MotoGP race last season. And where better to experience your first MotoGP than Mugello, one of the most popular races on the MotoGP calendar, full of atmopshere and set in a stunning part of Italy

There's no question about it, James loved his time in Italy for the Mugello MotoGP. We asked him to share his top five travel tips.

Make sure to soak up the party atmosphere

Mugello is synonymous for its atmosphere, with fans from all over the world rubbing shoulders with each other. Rev offs have become a very unique tradition of Mugello, where fans compete against each other to make as much noise as possible with a variety of different engines brought from home.

It’s well worth taking a trip around the campsites located next to the circuit, as you never know what kind of crazy petrol powered, noise making contraptions fans have put together.

Grab a bite at Trattoria Pizzeria da Nasone

Trattoria Pizzeria da Nasone is a small family run pizzeria located very close to our hotels. A wide ranging reasonably priced menu offers a vast selection of delicious, hand stretched, stone baked pizzas. The staff are very friendly and they are also very generous with the limoncello.

Comfy shoes are a must

The general admission areas at Mugello are second to none, with good views of the circuit on every corner. It is well worth walking around the circuit in practice and qualifying to take in all the different views of thisworld renowned circuit. However, with some steep climbs to navigate it is well worth wearing your comfiest pair of shoes. Most of Italy descend on Mugello on race day, so it is certainly is worth getting a grandstand seat to enjoy the race. Poggio Secco is a firm favourite in our office with flares and atmosphere like no other, however, we do recommend wearing yellow.

Take a walk to Ponte Vecchio

With all the madness of the race it’s always nice to take a wander around the sleepy streets of Florence to wind down. Ponte Vecchio is a medieval stone bridge over the Arno river, the bridge is lined with small shops and is a fantastic photo opportunity. Plenty of plazas are located close by, should you need to stop for some refreshments on the way back to the hotel.

One for the bucket list

With a mountainous setting along with the unpredictable racing it’s very easy to see why many of the teams wish every race was like Mugello. Mugello really is a must for any motorsport fan.
