Our Top 5 Five MotoGP races

Our Top 5 Five MotoGP races

Our Top 5 Five MotoGP races

Between the Grandstand Motor Sports team, we’ve been to every race and circuit. With the MotoGP season now within our sights, we’ve been having discussions in our office about which are the best races to travel to and why.

Here is the list that we agreed on. As a fan travelling to any motorsport event, there are many factors to consider what makes a great race including accessibility from the UK, how easy is it to reach the circuit, atmosphere and overall value for money. Our decisions have taken into consideration all of these factors.

This is our top five:

1, Italian MotoGP at Mugello

2 June 2019

If you’ve never been to a MotoGP race, then this one should be on your bucket list! Our biggest selling MotoGP race on the calendar, the Mugello MotoGP ticks all of the boxes for fans on and off the track. Set in the foothills of Florence, the Italian MotoGP makes for a perfect getaway.

  • Easily accessible from the UK - with flights into Bologna, Pisa or Florence from a number of regional UK airports.
  • Stay in Florence - Our base for the weekend is fabulous Florence. Away from the track in the evenings, you have the freedom to explore and dine in one of Italy’s most beautiful and renowned cities.
  • Incredible atmosphere - With post-track invasions, bikes everywhere, air horns blaring and possibly the most passionate fans you’ll ever be around - the atmosphere is electric. It's actually crazy but that is what MAKES Mugello and the only way to understand is to go there and experience it for yourself.
  • Easy to get to the circuit - This is a slight contradiction in terms because it is well known for being very difficult to reach the circuit independently or by using public transport. However, if you travel with Grandstand, it is not a problem, because we provide the circuit transfers daily. You can sit back, relax and watch the madness unfold as your coach approaches the circuit.

2, San Marino MotoGP at Misano

15 September 2019

The Republic of San Marino is just 24 square miles in size and has a population of under 34,000 people. It is just 6 miles from the coast, and this is where we base ourselves for the GP weekend.

  • Rossi’s home race - the San Marino MotoGP is regarded as Rossi’s home race. Tavullia, a town located 8 miles from where we stay, is Rossi’s hometown. We offer the chance to visit Tavullia on our San Marino MotoGP package.
  • Stay on the coast - We stay on the Italy’s Adriatic Coast for the San Marino MotoGP. It's a nice time of year to be there when the summer crowds have left.

3, Catalunya MotoGP at Barcelona

16 June 2019

One of the most popular rounds on the MotoGP calendar, the Catalunya MotoGP takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona. It has great weather, the option to base yourself on the coast or in the city and is good value too.

  • Easily accessible from the UK - another race that is very easy to get to from the UK. With many UK regional airports having direct flights into Barcelona, with short flight times and short transfer times upon arrival in Spain
  • Choose to stay in central Barcelona or on the Costa Brava coast - The Circuit de Barcelona is situated just 16 miles north of Barcelona. Our packages give you the option to stay in either vibrant Barcelona or northwest of the circuit on the coast in Malgrat de Mar on the Costa Brava.
  • Home race of many of the Spanish riders - The Catalunya MotoGP is the home race for many of MotoGP’s biggest riders including Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo and the Espargaro brothers. Home support is therefore plentiful, adding to the atmosphere of this race.
  • Good value - One of our best value overseas trips, the Catalunya MotoGP can be done on a budget.

4, Thailand MotoGP at Buriram

6 October 2019

2019 will be only the second running of the Thailand MotoGP in Buriram. The 2018 race was a huge success. The modern Buriram International Circuit is situated 400km northeast of Bangkok.

  • Incredible viewing - The Buriram International Circuit has a huge capacity of 100,000 with state-of-the-art facilities. The many grandstands around the circuit provide excellent viewing opportunities for fans.
  • A friendly race with passionate fans - Buriram literally translates into “city of happiness. Visitors can expect to enjoy a warm welcome from the enthusiastic and friendly locals, and an ever-increasing passion for motorcycle racing evident.

5, Valencia MotoGP

17 November 2019

The final MotoGP race of the season takes place in Valencia. The atmosphere is ramped up for this race because it is often the championship decider.

  • Valencia is great - It is Spain’s third largest city situated on the Mediterranean coast, with a mild climate in November, and renowned for its cultural and sporting heritage. The city’s historic centre is a must-see with its narrow winding streets lined with cafes, restaurants and bars.
  • Unique circuit with great viewing opportunity - The huge Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana, with a capacity of 150,000, is a sell-out every year. The stadium-style nature the circuit means most parts of the circuit can be seen from any stand, helping create a brilliant atmosphere, enjoyed by the riders and fans alike
  • Its the last race of the season - a good excuse to party! - what better excuse for a party than to give the season the send of it deserves?
